Tickets Sales Take Off for Al Ain Aerobatic Extravaganza

Al Ain – 5th January 2010 - Tickets for one of the UAE's most spectacular shows have gone on sale. The four-day Al Ain Aerobatic Show - to be held at Al Ain International Airport from January 27th until the 30th2010 - is expected to attract huge crowds with its impressive line-up of the world's leading aeronautical teams.

Daily tickets for the show are pegged at last year’s prices - Dhs40 per adult and Dhs25 for children between three and 10 years. Children under the age of three get in free. They can be bought viawww.timeouttickets.com or from a special Toll Free hotline: 800 4669.

The Al Ain Aerobatic Show is the world’s only aerobatic spectacle that combines military and civil aircraft, stunt displays and competitions. The 2010 show features some of the world's top pilots from Croatia,Hungary, Italy, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and the USA.

Set against the backdrop of one of the world’s oldest desert oasis settlements, the air spectacular is held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The event is hosted by Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and the UAE Air Force and is supported by an extensive list of sponsors including Etihad, Pilatus, Al Ain Water and Abu Dhabi National Hotels (gold) along with silver sponsors Mubadala Aerospace, ADAT, Al Ain Municipality, Panasonic and Costa, while Mercedes Benz will provide the official vehicles.

Faisal Al Sheikh, Manager of ADTA’s Major Events Division, said that the event, now in its eighth year, could see visitor records smashed. "We anticipate even larger numbers of spectators than last year because of a number of key improvements to facilities and greater awareness of the show. Last year we achieved a record of over 130,000 spectators – we’re now looking to beat that.”.

Sure to be a crowd favourite will be the high-adrenaline Aero GP competition, back by popular demand. It features three different races, including pylon racing in which six planes battle it out in a closed circuit at the same time, one-on-one air combat and a precision ‘barnstorming’ exercise designed to test skilled pilots to the limit.

Other major attractions will be the South African Wizards, who perform a special parachute routine; the Breitling Jet Team who fly seven trainer jets in close formation flying; and teams from the UK, Hungary and Croatia as well as individual stunt flyers such as Jacquie Warda from the USA and Ali Ozturk from Turkey.

A 'first' in the region will be the appearance of the 'Wefly!' Team from Italy. It is the only disabled pilots' aerobatic display team in the world, and presents a 10 minute synchronized dance of three planes.

Back on the ground, there will be no shortage of activities, including a flying display of radio controlled model aircraft each day emulating their bigger rivals overhead. Enthusiasts will also be able to get up close to inspect a number of aircraft used by Al Ain’s Aviation Academy; and there will be a children’s play area and a restaurant zone.
