Al Ain to Host Mid East's First Musical Aerobatics Competition

The UAE’s historic Oasis City of Al Ain will host another Middle East first this month, as the Aero GP – a highlight of the Al Ain Aerobatic Show, which takes place 27th – 30th January - introduces musically scored aerobatics to its three-part competition.

Entertainment is being woven with excitement for the Aero GP spectacular – known as the Formula One of Air Racing - when six pilots compete with each other across multi-plane Air Racing, Air Combat and the new, Scored Aerobatics disciplines. Precision Target Aiming – a crowd favourite, formerly part of the Aero GP – will this year be an independent demonstration highlight.

Faisal Al Sheikh, Head - Major Events Division of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which hosts the globally renowned aerobatics event, said: “The addition of a musical Aerobatics discipline brings competitors a new challenge and audiences a new and inspirational dimension to the experience.

“The Aero GP is aimed at people of all ages and is intended to inspire the crowds. It will showcase the world’s best piloting skills, the wonder of flight and human achievement, set against Al Ain’s stunning desert.”

Aero GP Al Ain is scheduled for 27th – 30th January. Presently pilots’ planes are being dismantled to be shipped to Abu Dhabi where they will be re-assembled, ready for the pilots to put them through their paces.

Held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Al Ain Aerobatic Show is hosted by Abu Dhabi Airports Company, organised by ADTA and the UAE Air Force and is supported by an extensive list of sponsors. These include gold sponsors Etihad, Pilatus, Al Ain Water and Abu Dhabi National Hotels, along with silver sponsors Mubadala Aerospace, ADAT, Al Ain Municipality and Panasonic. Costa is the official retailer which will partner with The National, a leading UAE English language daily newspaper, to create ‘The National Costa Coffee Lounge’ – a relaxed venue to grab a coffee and paper.
